Urchins, scamps, rascals are often used as a symbol of the marginalized. The collage element in my drawings on wood, which is comprised of bits and pieces of 1970s news based magazines, suggests that we all eventually become lost and forgotten to varying degrees. The placement of the earlier sculptures on books magnifies the narrative aspect of this sympathetic subject - a character common to novels and poetry - while the recycled objects used to construct them brings to the fore the importance of making the most of preexisting resources. In the later work, the sculptures in some instance have increase greatly in size as they emerge from, or disappear into a representation of a door, wall or window. In other instances, homeless dogs and cats are created to represent those same elements of sacrifice and survival.
